Is it possible to clean the toilet without bleach? If you're trying to reduce harsh chemicals and plastic at home, it's a question you've probably asked yourself.
The good news is, it's really easy. Toilet bombs are a gentle and natural alternative to clean your toilet bowl, below the waterline. Unlike bleach, they're made with just 4 ingredients - baking soda and citric acid, essential oils and water.
How to use toilet cleaning bombs
You can combine using toilet cleaner bombs with your other bathroom cleaning products. I recommend using a bathroom cleaning spray or cleaning paste on your toilet first. Then drop a toilet bomb into the bowl and leave it to dissolve.
A toilet bomb works by gently fizzing and releasing its ingredients. Bicarbonate of soda is a powerful deodoriser, while citric acid disinfects and removes limescale.
Once your toilet bomb has dissolved, wipe down the inside of your toilet bowl with a toilet brush. Finally, give it a flush to leave your toilet sparkling clean.
As with all natural cleaning methods, the rule for using toilet bombs is little and often. You can use one anytime from once a week to more often for a regular clean. You can keep toilet bombs in the box, or in a mason jar for a more minimalist look. For best results, keep them dry.
About our toilet bombs
If you're new to toilet bombs, our mini packs of 9 are a good place to start. Or, to stock up for your bathroom, we have bigger boxes of 36. They contain enough to keep your toilet clean for 9 months, assuming you clean once a week.
All our toilet bombs are handmade by April. They're vegan, plastic free and suitable for using with septic tanks. The mini packs come in a recycled paper bag and label, while the boxes are made of FSC certified cardboard. We print using compostable inks.
Our ingredients list is so simple you can use it to make homemade toilet bombs too! If you're going to, you can find your dry ingredients with us. You'll need bicarbonate of soda and citric acid, along with a silicone mould and essential oils. Just mix them and slowly add water until you get a paste solid enough to dry in a mould.
Of course, DIY toilet bombs aren't for everyone, which is why we offer our handmade toilet bombs too. Here are our ingredients:
